1995 was the founding year of the History Workshop Rostock (Geschichtswerkstatt Rostock e.V.). Since then, the association has been dedicated to researching and reappraising regional history.
Initially, we were nine women and men interested in history who came together in March 1995 to form the History Workshop Rostock. Today we are around 20 enthusiasts who continue to stand by the statement we made back then: We still know far too little about how people in the past worked, celebrated, mourned, campaigned for or against political change, stood up for or against their fellow citizens or how they tried to simply get by, even in times of oppression and persecution. Our engagement in the History Workshop is intended to act as a bridge between academic research and the needs of interested people without academic training, through which suggestions can be made in both directions.
